Oklahoma City leaders have approved plans for a $25.4 million indoor softball facility at Devon Park. The facility aims to enhance the city’s reputation as the softball capital of the world and prepare for major events like the 2028 Olympic Games.
Facility Details
The project includes two indoor practice infields, team locker rooms, and other amenities to provide players and coaches with the necessary facilities while in Oklahoma City. Craig Cress, CEO of USA Softball, highlighted the importance of the facility, stating that it will be the best softball-specific facility in the world.
An enclosed, climate-controlled walkway will connect the new facility directly to the stadium, allowing players and coaches to move between buildings regardless of weather conditions. The facility could eventually be used year-round for training and youth programming.
Construction and Timeline
Construction is expected to take about 18 months once it begins, with a groundbreaking ceremony planned for this fall. The new facility is expected to be ready for the NCAA College World Series in 2028 and the 2028 Olympic Games.
