Victor Mata Villarreal, the suspect in the Midland mass shooting on June 12, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The autopsy results, released on Tuesday, confirmed this. Villarreal was found dead in an abandoned veterinarian’s office building where he had barricaded himself during a standoff with law enforcement after he opened fire at residents and police on Wall Street.
The shooting left 10 victims injured and one dead, identified as Edward Randall Scott, 62, of Midland. Villarreal was already wanted by police for an incident earlier in the week on June 10, when he fired shots at a Midland police officer, authorities said.
