According to a study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, getting three to four times the recommended amount of exercise can slash the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) by 30%.
Exercise Recommendations
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Heart Association recommend at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity every week, or an equivalent combination.
Doing the recommended amount of activity reduces the risk for CVD by about 9%. Adding a healthy plant-based diet can cut the risk by 19%. A supportive community also plays a role in a substantially healthier cardiovascular system.
Health pioneer Michael Roizen, M.D., suggests getting creative with exercise, such as parking a mile from work and fast-walking there and back each day or doing resistance exercises every even day of the month.
