A city map highlighting immigrant enclaves in New York City has sparked controversy after it was discovered that Little Italy was not included. The map, which was created by the previous administration in 2023, was updated by the current administration to include a few additional neighborhoods, but Little Italy was still left out.
Criticism and Response
Italian-American groups and actor Robert Davi have criticized the omission, with Davi calling Mayor Mamdani a ‘jerk’ for snubbing Little Italy. The city has since announced plans to update the map to include Little Italy.
Davi, who was born in Astoria, Queens, expressed his disappointment and frustration with the omission, stating that his grandparents, who immigrated from Sicily and Naples, helped build New York City. He also suggested that Mayor Mamdani, who was born in Uganda, should leave the United States if he does not respect the city’s history and heritage.
