A $2.6 million road improvement project has started on State Highway 26 between Deming and Hatch, New Mexico. The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) crews will perform crack sealing, fog sealing, and install centerline rumble strips to improve roadway safety.
Project Details
The project will cover the entire 46-mile stretch of NM 26. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures in both directions, with traffic guided through work zones by a pilot car. Construction will begin near U.S. 180 at mile marker 0 and progress east toward Hatch at mile marker 46.
Work is scheduled from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, with weekend work possible. The new centerline rumble strips are intended to help prevent head-on and crossover crashes by alerting drivers who unintentionally drift across the centerline.
