The North Carolina Senate race is heating up, with Democrat Roy Cooper holding a substantial cash on hand advantage. According to Federal Elections Commission filings, Cooper has $20.7 million cash on hand and total receipts of $34.9 million since January 1, 2025.
Republican Challenger
Republican Michael Whatley has $2.5 million cash on hand and total receipts of $8.4 million. Two other candidates, Libertarian Shannon Bray and Green Party’s Michael Dublin, are also on the ballot, with Dublin reporting $10,000 cash on hand.
The election is scheduled for November 3, with absentee ballots going out in seven weeks and the voter registration deadline on October 9. In-person early voting starts on October 15.
Congressional Districts
In other North Carolina congressional districts, several candidates are vying for seats. In the 1st Congressional District, incumbent Democratic Rep. Don Davis has $3.5 million cash on hand, while Republican Laurie Buckhout has $1.8 million.
In the 3rd Congressional District, incumbent Republican Rep. Dr. Greg Murphy has $2.6 million cash on hand, with Democrat Raymond Smith reporting $41,000.
