Nashville edge Atlanta 1-0 in tight GEODIS Park battle

Nashville SC claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Atlanta United FC on Friday night at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, grinding out three points in a low-scoring, defensively charged MLS contest that kept both goalkeepers busy throughout.

The lone goal of the evening proved to be the difference, as Nashville’s backline and goalkeeper combined to shut Atlanta out completely. Nashville SC goalkeeper Brian Schwake was instrumental in preserving the clean sheet, making five saves on the night to deny Atlanta United at every turn. His counterpart, Atlanta’s Lucas Hoyos, was tested far less frequently, finishing with two saves as Nashville’s attack struggled to consistently threaten in the final third.

Midfielder Hany Mukhtar led Nashville in total shots with two attempts, a modest figure that underscores just how difficult both defenses made life for opposing forwards. Nashville managed eight total shots on the evening, with three finding the target — a conversion rate that was enough to secure the win, but only barely.

Perhaps the most quietly dominant performer on the pitch was Nashville’s Maxwell Woledzi, who put together a complete two-way performance. Woledzi completed 71 accurate passes to lead all players in that category while also recording 10 defensive interventions, demonstrating his ability to control the midfield in both directions. His presence helped Nashville maintain 47.9 percent possession — slightly less than Atlanta — while still dictating the tempo of key stretches of the match.

For Atlanta United, Enea Mihaj was the most active player in the attacking third, leading his side with three total shots and completing 68 accurate passes to pace the visitors in the passing game. Despite Mihaj’s efforts, Atlanta could not find a way past Schwake and Nashville’s organized defensive structure. Tomás Jacob led all players with 12 defensive interventions for Atlanta, a number that speaks to how much pressure Nashville was able to generate at various points in the match, even if the scoreline remained tight.

Nashville’s defensive discipline was evident across the board. The home side committed 10 fouls and picked up one yellow card while keeping their shape intact. They generated four corner kicks and completed 371 of 434 passes on the night, showing a methodical approach to building play even without dominating possession.

Atlanta, for their part, were unable to convert their opportunities into anything meaningful against a Nashville side that defended with purpose and organization. Schwake’s five-save performance was the backbone of the result, ensuring that whatever chances Atlanta created were ultimately wasted.

The 1-0 result gives Nashville SC a valuable three points at home, a result that will boost their standing in the Eastern Conference as the MLS season continues through the summer. For Atlanta United, the loss is a frustrating one — they were not without their moments, but a clinical Nashville defensive effort and a standout goalkeeping display left them empty-handed on the road.
