Iran launched missile and drone strikes against Kuwait, a US ally, causing a temporary suspension of all takeoff and landing operations at Kuwait International Airport. Kuwait Airways confirmed it had to reschedule most of its flights as a direct result of the aerial attacks.
The strikes reportedly hit a Kuwaiti oil facility, resulting in material damage and injuries, as well as a power generation and water desalination station.
Additionally, Tehran claimed responsibility for targeting US military assets located in Bahrain, stating that the operations hit aircraft hangars at Sheik Isa Air Base. In tandem with the land-based strikes, Iran announced new maritime operations inside the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian authorities stated they stopped four vessels and caused explosions on two oil tankers. The US military denied this account of the maritime incidents.
These developments follow a seventh consecutive night of US military strikes on Iranian targets, which the US Central Command stated were directed at military logistics, surveillance sites, and underground weapons storage.
Iran has accused the US of targeting civilian infrastructure during these waves, specifically pointing to an attack on a water desalination plant in Jask County that reportedly left 10,000 residents without water.
The ongoing escalation comes despite explicit calls for maximum restraint from the United Nations regarding strikes on civilian infrastructure.
Iran’s Response
In a statement broadcast by Iranian state media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps defended the actions as a direct response to continued American military operations: “Since there is no international institution to prevent the savagery of the US military, we have no path before us except the Quranic command: ‘Whoever attacks you, attack it in the same manner’.”
