LAFC rout LA Galaxy 3-0 in dominant El Tráfico showdown

CARSON, Calif. — LAFC made a commanding statement in the latest edition of El Tráfico on Friday night, shutting out the LA Galaxy 3-0 at Dignity Health Sports Park to claim a convincing road victory in one of MLS’s most heated rivalries.

The result was a thorough one for LAFC, who controlled the match from the opening whistle and never allowed the Galaxy a realistic path back into the contest. The Galaxy, despite holding 59.4 percent of the ball, were unable to convert their possession into any meaningful threat, managing just 10 shots on the night with only two finding the frame.

Leading the charge for LAFC was Son Heung-Min, who was the most dangerous attacker on the pitch. The forward finished as his team’s most active shooter, registering six total shots across the 90 minutes and serving as a constant headache for the Galaxy backline. His relentless pressure set the tone for an LAFC attack that proved far more clinical than its crosstown rival.

In the midfield and defensive phases, LAFC’s Ryan Porteous was a wall, recording a game-high 11 defensive interventions to help preserve the clean sheet. Aaron Long contributed to the buildup as well, completing 53 accurate passes to keep LAFC’s structure organized throughout the match.

For the Galaxy, the evening was one of frustration. Lucas Sanabria led the home side with four total shots, while midfielder Edwin Cerrillo was the busiest passer on either team, completing 63 accurate passes as part of a Galaxy squad that attempted 589 passes in total and completed 533 of them. Despite all that ball movement, the Galaxy could not manufacture quality chances, and their 9 corner kicks went unrewarded.

Goalkeeper Novak Micovic made two saves for the Galaxy, matching the two stops made by LAFC’s veteran shot-stopper Hugo Lloris on the other end — though Lloris’s evening was far less stressful given the limited service he faced.

Discipline was also a concern for the Galaxy, who were whistled for 13 fouls and collected three yellow cards during the match. LAFC, by contrast, played a cleaner game and were able to manage the contest without the same level of disruption.

Justin Haak was the Galaxy’s most active defender, recording seven defensive interventions in a losing effort — a reflection of just how much pressure LAFC was able to apply throughout the evening.

The 3-0 final is a significant result in the context of the Western Conference standings, as LAFC’s dominant performance over their city rivals not only earns three crucial points but also delivers a psychological blow to a Galaxy side that could not find answers at home. For LAFC, a clean sheet and a three-goal margin in a derby match is about as emphatic a statement as a team can make.

The Galaxy will need to regroup quickly, as the El Tráfico defeat exposed real vulnerabilities in their ability to convert possession into danger. LAFC, meanwhile, will ride the momentum of a statement win as the MLS season continues to heat up.
