Molina Healthcare’s Back-to-School Health Fair helped students prepare for the first day of school with free health and dental screenings. Daziyah Meaux, a 15-year-old student, attended the event to get her teeth checked. The dental professionals at the event provided her with an X-ray and informed her that she didn’t have any major issues.
Closing the Healthcare Gap
The event aimed to close the healthcare gap in the community, particularly in west Louisville, where people have poorer health outcomes and lower life expectancy. According to Ashley Duncan from Molina Health, the event reduced barriers by providing a one-stop health center. Daziyah hopes to change the healthcare situation in her community by attending events like this one.
The event was part of the efforts to improve healthcare in west Louisville, where a new hospital was recently built. The construction of Norton West Louisville Hospital was completed in November 2024, marking the first hospital in the area in over 100 years.
