TARC is implementing a major redesign of its bus network, which will reduce routes and stops while increasing efficiency and service frequency. The changes will take effect on August 2.
Redesign Details
Ozzy Gibson, executive director of TARC, said this redesign is saving taxpayers millions of dollars. The redesign includes a 13% reduction in routes, particularly in outlying areas, and decreases the total number of TARC stops from 3,500 to 1,500.
However, it adds more frequent service to popular routes and guarantees service to all JCPS magnet schools. Downtown Louisville is a key focus of the redesign, with plans to create a new downtown hub for bus transfers.
TARC officials are encouraging regular riders to review how the changes will affect their routes over the next month. The changes will officially take effect on August 2nd.
