Los Alamos, NM — Talent agency Mitchell & Associates Talent is officially extending its operations to Las Cruces, marking a significant step for the city’s emerging film community. The decision follows a sustained surge in film and television production across southern New Mexico, a trend the agency says will continue to generate jobs and economic growth.
Agency’s vision for Las Cruces
Owner and talent agent Carissa Mitchell explained, “Las Cruces has become an increasingly important production center, and we want to be here to support the talent and productions that are driving that growth.” She added that the agency’s goal is to “create more opportunities for southern New Mexico performers while becoming an active part of the region’s growing entertainment community.”
Three decades of experience
Mitchell & Associates has been a fixture in the industry for more than 30 years, representing actors, voice‑over artists, and commercial talent for film, television, and advertising. The firm is SAG‑AFTRA franchised and already represents talent throughout New Mexico and beyond.
Local endorsement
New Mexico State University filmmaker and professor Ross Marks praised the move, stating, “Mitchell & Associates has long been one of the most respected talent agencies in New Mexico, and their decision to establish a presence in Las Cruces is an important development for our growing film community.” He noted that the agency’s experience, industry relationships, and professionalism are “a tremendous asset” as production activity expands in the southern part of the state.
Economic impact of the film sector
Film New Mexico reports that the state’s production spend has risen dramatically, from $6.5 million in fiscal year 2021 to a record $58.5 million in fiscal year 2026. The agency’s expansion aligns with the state’s updated “uplift zone,” which now includes additional small towns, tribal lands, and pueblos, and raises the uplift percentage from 5 % to 10 %. Officials expect continued growth in film‑related jobs and tourism.
Early traction
Mitchell said the new branch started with only four clients but has already added around 15 more. The agency plans to recruit talent primarily by invitation, encouraging interested performers to reach out via email at [email protected]. At present, the Las Cruces office operates virtually and does not have a physical storefront.
Looking ahead
With the agency’s entry into Las Cruces, local actors and production crews gain a nearby resource for representation, casting calls, and industry guidance. The move is expected to strengthen the city’s appeal to out‑of‑state producers and further solidify New Mexico’s reputation as a premier filming destination.
