The FBI is investigating threats against the people who were with Wells and their families. Tindell also stated that false information shared about Wells’ death has incited rage and emotion, leading to a higher level of calls to his office, including direct threats.

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch said her office will hold accountable anyone who threatens law enforcement working on the case. Fitch emphasized the importance of respecting the integrity of the investigation process and warned that efforts to intimidate or disrupt the work of law enforcement and prosecutors will be taken seriously.
