The National Weather Service will host free virtual training sessions from Monday, July 27 through Thursday, July 30 to help Floridians understand tropical threats and prepare for hurricane season.

The Atlantic hurricane season is underway, and while experts are forecasting a below-average season, preparation remains crucial as it only takes one storm to make an impact.
Will Ulrich, a warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service stationed at the Melbourne office, joined WESH 2 to speak about the initiative.
“Florida Tropical Training Week” will feature four days of focused topics: Day 1 (July 27): Getting Ready, Day 2 (July 28): Hunker Down, Day 3 (July 29): Post Storm Safety, Day 4 (July 30): Lessons Learned & Panel Discussion with the National Hurricane Center and the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
The training is free and open to everyone, but participants must register in advance. Each day will offer three one-hour virtual sessions at 11 a.m. ET, 1 p.m. ET, and 7 p.m. ET.
The information will be tailored for Florida residents, but much of the material will be relevant to anyone living in areas affected by tropical weather.
