Louisville has launched its 2026 Cultural Pass, a program designed to provide families with free access to over 150 events across Kentucky and Indiana. This initiative aims to help children maintain their educational progress during the summer months, often referred to as ‘brain drain.’

Local Organizations Join the Effort

The Cultural Pass is available as a free app for residents of Floyd, Clark, or Harrison Counties in Indiana and Jefferson or Bullitt Counties in Kentucky. It offers access to events hosted by 50 cultural organizations, including the Kentucky Science Center. Megan Sleeper from the Science Center emphasized the importance of experiential learning, stating, “Over the summer, you can lose some of the progress you made over the school year. But we are not here to make you do any homework or take any quizzes. You can keep learning by experiencing things, by experimenting.”

Participating venues like the Portland Museum are opening their doors to anyone with the app, providing free access to exhibits and cultural activities. The Cool Mountain Theater in Jeffersonville, a relatively new theater company, sees the Cultural Pass as a valuable opportunity to reach a broader audience.

Program Details and Restrictions

The Cultural Pass program runs through August 9. While the pass offers extensive access, it is limited to residents of specific counties. This initiative not only supports educational engagement but also encourages families to explore local cultural resources together, reinforcing the importance of family and community in educational development.
