Jason Alexander Apologizes for Objectifying Minor

Jason Alexander has apologized to Courtney Stodden for his participation in a 2012 comedy sketch that objectified her when she was a minor. The sketch, which was posted on Funny or Die, featured Alexander holding a cellphone up to Stodden’s chest and making comments about her body.

Stodden Speaks Out

Stodden, who was 17 years old at the time of the sketch, recently spoke out about the experience on Instagram. She shared a photo of herself and Alexander from the sketch, in which she is wearing a bikini and Alexander is rubbing a cellphone across her chest. Stodden wrote that she was a minor at the time and did not have the legal power to decide whether she wanted to participate in the sketch.

Stodden also noted that the paycheck for her appearance in the sketch went to her then-husband, Doug Hutchison, who was 51 years old at the time. She and Hutchison were married in 2011, when Stodden was 16 years old, and divorced in 2020.

Alexander apologized for his role in the sketch, stating that he completely agrees that it was inappropriate and that he regrets it. He also expressed his sincerest apologies to Stodden for any harm or distress the sketch may have caused her.

Support for California Assembly Bill 1267

Stodden’s Instagram post also included a call to support California Assembly Bill 1267, which aims to permanently end child marriage by setting the minimum legal age for marriage in California to 18 with no exceptions. Stodden and Hutchison’s marriage was an example of a child marriage, and Stodden has spoken out about the need to protect minors from such situations.
