Italian police have recovered three stolen artworks by famous artists Renoir, Cézanne, and Matisse. The artworks, valued at millions of euros, were stolen from a private museum near Parma, Italy. Five people were detained in connection with the theft.

Art Recovery

The recovered artworks include a painting by Auguste Renoir titled “Fish,” a pencil and watercolor by Paul Cézanne titled “Still Life with Cherries,” and a color aquatint by Henri Matisse titled “Odalisque on the Terrace.” The Cézanne was valued at 6 million euros, the Renoir at 3 million euros, and the Matisse at 20,000 euros.

The theft occurred on the night of March 22-23, when thieves entered the museum through a broken door window and removed the artworks from the walls. Investigators found important evidence at the scene, including a pickaxe and fire extinguisher with their serial numbers removed.

In a separate incident, Brazilian police recovered eight stolen works by Matisse, valued at over 1 million reais. The artworks were found in an apartment outside Sao Paulo.
