Nine-year-old Hunter Rael has returned to his home in Rio Communities, New Mexico, following a successful heart transplant. This marks a significant milestone in his journey towards recovery and a new chapter for his family. Hunter’s homecoming was celebrated with a special escort by multiple motorcyclists and the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office, highlighting the community’s support for the young boy and his family.
A Community Celebration
The Albuquerque Youth Orchestra paid tribute to Hunter with a musical performance that captured his journey through his second heart transplant. The first transplant was unfortunately unsuccessful, but this second chance has brought renewed hope and joy to Hunter and his family. Country singer Jelly Roll also dedicated a song to Hunter during an outdoor concert in Albuquerque, further adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
After the concert, Hunter and his mother, Anna Moya, returned to Aurora Children’s Hospital in Colorado to complete his recovery. Despite the challenges they faced, Hunter’s mother expressed optimism about his future, stating, “He’s a healthy boy, able to do whatever he wants to do right now.” Hunter himself is eager to embrace life fully, engaging in exercises like walking, lifting weights, and doing push-ups and sit-ups. He looks forward to playing sports for the first time, a testament to his resilience and determination.
Looking Ahead
While Hunter will need to return to the hospital for routine procedures and monitoring for signs of rejection, his outlook remains positive. His mother, Anna Moya, shared her hopes for Hunter’s future, saying, “You will have a full life to live, full to get started and enjoy all the stuff he’s missed so far.” The community’s support and the successful transplant have given Hunter and his family a renewed sense of hope and the opportunity to look forward to a bright future.
