Young athletes from Hoover have made their mark in the baseball world by leading Apex Elite Hoover to a championship season in the Over the Mountain Baseball League. The team, featuring several students from Hoover City Schools, clinched the league title on April 21 with a decisive victory over a Homewood-area team.

Local Talent Shines

The Over the Mountain Baseball League, which includes teams from Hoover, Mountain Brook, Chelsea, Spain Park, Homewood, Trussville, Oak Mountain, and Alabaster, witnessed a stellar performance from Apex Elite Hoover. The team finished the season with an impressive 16-2 record, highlighting the skill and dedication of its players.

Among the standout athletes were Bumpus Middle School students Rollie Carter, Karsten Denson, Liam Greer, Colton Gregory, DJ LeBeaux, Evan Nix, Bryson Piennette, and Kenneth Walker. Berry Middle School’s Leo Jackson also contributed significantly to the team’s success.

Continued Success in Regional Tournaments

Building on their league success, many of these players continued to compete with the Apex Elite Scout Team in Perfect Game tournaments. The team recently secured the Perfect Game Deep South Ultimate Championship, a notable tournament featuring 20 teams from Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Georgia.

Evan Nix, a Bumpus Middle School student, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, with his outstanding performance leading him to rank as the top hitter. Teammate Karsten Denson followed closely, securing the second spot among over 200 players. Leo Jackson also delivered a strong performance, finishing seventh in hitting statistics.

The achievements of these young athletes not only bring pride to their schools and families but also highlight the vibrant sports culture in Hoover. Their dedication and teamwork serve as an inspiration to other aspiring athletes in the community.
