11th Annual Sgt. Ron Helus Ride Honors First Responders in Ventura County

In a heartfelt tribute to first responders, the 11th annual Sgt. Ron Helus Ride For The Blue took place on Saturday, drawing motorcycle riders from across Ventura County. The event, which began in Simi Valley, included stops in Oxnard, Santa Paula, and Fillmore, showcasing the community’s support for those who serve and protect.

Honoring Sgt. Ron Helus

The ride was renamed in 2019 to honor Sgt. Ron Helus, who tragically lost his life during the Borderline Shooting in 2018. Helus was killed by friendly fire while heroically attempting to save others. His legacy continues to inspire the community and first responders alike.

Richard Camacho, a participant in the ride, expressed his dedication to the cause, stating, “This is my fourth time on the run. It is supporting the first responders.” The event not only commemorates Helus’s bravery but also raises funds for the Ventura County Community Foundation’s wellness and peer support programs.

Supporting Mental Health and Leadership

The funds raised through the ride are directed towards mental health support and leadership development for first responders. Volunteer Cristy Warner, who helped distribute raffle prizes, emphasized the importance of these initiatives, noting that each rider contributes to enhancing the mental well-being of those who serve the community.
