A new bookstore, Books4Cause, is opening in Uptown Chicago, offering free books, DVDs, CDs, and records to the community. The store, founded by Yosef Lifchitz in 2020, aims to address book waste and provide access to reading materials in areas with limited bookstore options.
Community Focus
Books4Cause has already given away over 200,000 books from its first location in Avondale and also collects and sends books to support libraries in Africa through the African Library Project. The Uptown location will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and noon to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
Customers can take up to 10 items per visit, with some sections having limits due to stock levels. Teachers and those collecting books for communal purposes, such as Free Little Libraries, are exempt from the 10-item limit. Books4Cause relies on donations, which can be dropped off at any time, and the store will also arrange for free pickups for large donations.
