Thousand Springs State Park in Hagerman, Idaho, is a popular destination for kayaking, offering both lazy and challenging routes. The park is located 35 miles northwest of Twin Falls and is part of the Malad Gorge recreation area.
Things to Know Before Kayaking at Thousand Springs
Before heading out for the first time, there are several things to be aware of. Parking can be a challenge, especially on weekends, so be prepared to walk with your kayak. Additionally, people live on Ritter Island, so be respectful of their property. The scenery is stunning, with panoramic views of natural pools and springs, crystal clear water, and a beautiful waterfall.
There are two routes to take once launching: a relaxing route to the right, which passes by incredible natural springs and cool rock formations, and a more challenging route to the left, which takes you past a giant waterfall and around Ritter Island. Be sure to watch out for boaters. The park is slightly off-grid, so be prepared for a bit of an adventure finding the parking spaces.
