Fort Worth is home to two Level 1 trauma centers: John Peter Smith Hospital and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth received the national designation in 2023, joining John Peter Smith Hospital, which first received the designation in 2009.
What is a Level 1 Trauma Center?

Level 1 trauma centers also have local roles in disaster planning and trauma care research. Hospitals must seek recertification for the Level 1 designation every three years from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
