Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles are making the trip across the Atlantic to London’s NFL Pro Shop, eager to stock up on team apparel before the Eagles face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
European fans seek Eagles gear
Dennis Brockington, a service member originally from South Philadelphia now living in Spain, said the NFL’s popularity is growing throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. “You get Spanish, you get Portuguese, you hear different variations of English language; Scotland, Wales, so the NFL is definitely getting popular,” he said. “Especially the Eagles overseas and it’s great!”
Leo Kamphuis traveled from Germany specifically to purchase Eagles merchandise and watch his favorite team play. “I have the chance to see the Eagles, and I don’t have to fly to America,” he explained. “I was like, let’s book a trip and we’re gone!” Kamphuis also plays defensive tackle in a German league, describing American football as his new favorite sport.
Local Philadelphia shops join the excitement
Back in Philadelphia, Eagles supporters can find special London‑themed apparel for the upcoming game at Minor Details, a shop with locations in the city’s Manayunk and Fishtown neighborhoods. Owner Mallory Minor said the store is working to create designs that can’t be found at the official pro shop. “We got our first London merch request probably in early August,” Minor said.
The surge of interest in Eagles gear abroad highlights the growing appeal of American football in Europe, a trend that has been noted by fans and local businesses alike.
