Disney and TikTok have announced a partnership that will allow social media creators to make short-form videos based on Disney’s brands, including Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar. The feature will roll out in the United States in the coming months and then expand to other countries.
Details of the Partnership
The companies said that content will be refreshed regularly to engage subscribers more deeply in timely fan conversations, building stronger communities, and ultimately, helping them engage with more story formats across Disney+. The deal marks one of the biggest moves for Disney’s new CEO, Josh D’Amaro, who assumed the role in March and is tasked with future-proofing the company.
On a call with analysts, D’Amaro said the addition of short-form video creates a more complete experience on Disney+ and ideally makes users stay longer and engage more, and should help them discover new shows. It’s a pretty big deal for us, and very much in line with our long-term strategies on streaming, he added.
