With every precinct in Hays County reporting, the final unofficial tallies show Democratic victories in both contested commissioner seats.
Precinct 2: Johnny Flores Wins Resoundingly
Democratic candidate Johnny Flores secured the Precinct 2 seat on the Hays County Commissioners Court with almost 70% of the vote. The result reflects a decisive lead over Republican challenger Abby Gibson, who earned roughly 30% of the ballots cast.
Flores thanked voters in a Facebook post, saying, “To every resident of Precinct 2, whether you voted for me or not, and to all the people of Hays County: I look forward to serving you. I will fight every day to ensure Hays County grows in a way that reflects our values and puts people first.”
Precinct 4: Angie Unger Makes History
In Precinct 4, Democratic candidate Angie Unger captured the seat with 50.87% of the vote, translating to 17,261 ballots. Republican opponent Rob McClelland received 49.13%, or 16,670 votes, leaving the race extremely close.
Unger, who celebrated the win with Community Impact, noted, “Last night, we made history in more ways than one. I became the first Latina woman to ever take this seat, and more than 17,000 people voted for us. We flipped the precinct people thought could never turn blue.” She said her top priority will be protecting Hays County’s water resources.
McClelland, while disappointed, affirmed his continued commitment to the community, stating, “When the dust settles and everyone moves on with their lives, residents still need someone to fight for their interests, their tax dollars and their children. I will be that leader who fights for them in whatever position I am in.” He also serves as a Dripping Springs ISD trustee.
