Boise families and food lovers have a reason to celebrate. The Boise Farmers Market, which has moved frequently since its inception, will finally settle at a permanent location within the Idaho Botanical Garden. The market’s 2026 Winter Market opens on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 9 a.m., and more than 70 vendors will be on hand to sell seasonal produce, locally raised meats, cheeses, breads, and other handcrafted goods.
Why the move matters
Executive director Amber Beierle says the new site ends a long period of uncertainty. “Now we don’t have to move around, be afraid that things will move around us, not a ton of construction around us,” Beierle explained. “We’re finally home.” The Botanical Garden location will serve as the market’s home for an April‑through‑December season, expanding the market’s traditional April‑through‑October schedule.
Creating a sense of place
Local artist Bobby Gaytan is adding visual flair to the new space with a mural that celebrates the journey of food from farm to table. “I’ve been coming to the market with my family for a while, and I kind of knew what different items they offer,” Gaytan said. “One of my earlier ideas was just to incorporate all of those things into the scene here.” The artwork is intended to reinforce the market’s identity and give shoppers a visual reminder of the region’s agricultural heritage.
Future plans
The move is part of a longer‑term vision that includes a permanent indoor facility as the Idaho Botanical Garden expands. While funding and a construction timeline have yet to be finalized, the partnership signals a commitment to strengthening local food systems and providing a stable venue for Idaho’s growers and artisans.
What shoppers can expect
Visitors to the Winter Market will find a covered area that can accommodate more than 40 vendors, with additional stalls set up outdoors for those who prefer open‑air browsing. The market’s diverse offerings include fresh fruits and vegetables, grass‑fed beef, free‑range poultry, artisanal cheeses, baked goods, and a rotating selection of crafts and prepared foods.
Located at 2355 Old Penitentiary Road, the Idaho Botanical Garden provides ample parking and easy access for families coming from across Ada County. The market’s new home not only offers convenience but also aligns with the community’s desire for a stable, family‑friendly gathering place where local producers can connect directly with consumers.
Community impact
By establishing a permanent site, the Boise Farmers Market supports traditional families and local entrepreneurship—key pillars of the community’s economic health. The market’s presence encourages residents to purchase locally sourced foods, which helps keep money within the region and reduces reliance on distant supply chains.
Boise’s residents can look forward to a reliable venue for fresh, wholesome foods throughout the winter months, reinforcing the city’s reputation as a hub for sustainable agriculture and community engagement.
