Dallas Host Committee Raises $45 Million for Trump Republican Convention

Dallas officials and Republican organizers announced that the Dallas 2026 Host Committee has secured $45 million in donations within a 27‑day fundraising push. The money is intended to support the two‑day Republican convention scheduled for Sept. 9‑10 at the American Airlines Center.

Local donors drive the effort

The committee said contributions came from individuals and companies based in Dallas, across Texas and from supporters nationwide. As is typical for host committees, donor names and individual contribution amounts were not disclosed.

Ray Washburne, a Dallas developer who co‑chairs the committee, told The Dallas Morning News that the group had “met its fundraising goals” and looked forward to “celebrating everything Dallas” during the event. He added that donors were eager to showcase the city’s vibrant downtown, its experience hosting large‑scale events, and the famed Texas hospitality.

Economic impact and volunteer plans

Washburne, a former finance chairman for the Republican National Committee, estimates the convention will draw more than 20,000 attendees and generate over $50 million in local economic impact. The committee also plans to recruit more than 1,500 volunteers to help run the event.

Committee leaders include Washburne’s wife, Heather Washburne, longtime Dallas philanthropists and GOP donors Kenny and Lisa Troutt, former Trump aide Trent Morse, and fundraisers Kirstin Hopkins and Cara Mason, who worked on the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

How the funds will be used

The host committee says the raised money will promote Dallas, support its economy and local businesses, offset local government expenses, and help ensure a safe convention. No detailed breakdown of allocations has been released, and officials have not indicated whether the city will be reimbursed for any costs.

Dallas city officials plan to track expenses related to the convention but have not identified who might be asked to repay the city or how much could be recovered.

Donor landscape and transparency concerns

Attorney Andrew Cates, who specializes in legislative and campaign law, noted that Republican donors are accustomed to raising large sums quickly when needed. “If the Republicans need to raise $30 million to $40 million, they can do it,” he said.

Consumer‑advocacy groups and campaign‑finance watchdogs have long urged political parties to disclose convention donors and sponsors, arguing that the public deserves to know who is financing the event and what access they may receive. It remains unclear whether the Dallas 2026 Host Committee has registered with the Federal Election Commission, a requirement for host committees that must file detailed receipts and spending reports.

What to expect at the convention

Unlike national conventions that nominate presidential tickets, the Dallas gathering will not conduct official party business. Instead, it will serve as a rally for Trump supporters, promote Republican candidates ahead of the November elections, and feature speeches from former President Donald Trump and other leading Republicans, along with entertainment and state‑delegated seating in the arena.

Brendan Steinhauser, a Republican consultant based in Austin, expects contributions from donors who supported Dallas’s 2016 GOP convention bid, as well as from the oil and gas sector and technology leaders who have shifted toward Trump.
