Clive’s $10.5 million Greenbelt Landing park is set to open on July 17, featuring a performance stage, renovated event space, inclusive playground, public art, boardwalks, and a giant water slide. The park is part of the city’s efforts to reinvest in public spaces.
Years in the Making
The transformation of the area began several years ago, with construction lasting nearly two years. Clive Leisure Services Director Richard Brown said the goal was to create a place where visitors can spend an entire day.
The park also includes environmental restoration efforts, such as stabilizing 1,200 feet of Walnut Creek shoreline and restoring a wetland behind the playground. The wetland naturally filters stormwater before it reaches Walnut Creek.
Part of a Larger Investment
Greenbelt Landing is the latest in a series of major recreation projects completed or nearing completion in Clive. The city expects to reopen the renovated Linnan Park on August 1, and construction on the Greenbelt Trail under Interstate 235 is expected to finish later this month.
The public will get its first opportunity to experience the completed Greenbelt Landing during Clive Festival on July 17-18, which will feature food trucks, live music, fireworks, and the return of the Clive Fire Department’s giant water slide.
