The Southern Colorado Cares Telethon, held in partnership with United Way of Southern Colorado, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to aid victims of the Aspen Acres Fire. The event surpassed its original goal of $100,000 and continued to exceed subsequent goals, ultimately raising more than $275,000.
Community Support
The community showed strong support for the cause, with volunteers like Karen Yescavage moved to tears by the generosity of donors. "It’s helping restore my faith in humans," Yescavage said. The telethon received calls from across the region, including Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Castle Rock.
Abigail Reeder, Miss Pueblo West for 2025-26, noted that Pueblo is a community that comes together to help those in need. United Way of Southern Colorado President Shanna Farmer expressed her amazement at the rapid influx of funding, stating that the community’s willingness to step up and support each other is not surprising, but the scale of the response is unprecedented.
