Catholic Action Center seeks bottled water donations for Lexington homeless amid heat wave

Lexington, Ky. – As the summer heat intensifies, the Catholic Action Center is calling on the community to help keep the city’s homeless population safe from dehydration. With forecasted temperatures soaring into the 90s this week, the nonprofit organization announced an urgent need for bottled water donations.

How to donate

Donors can bring cases of bottled water directly to the Center’s facility at 1055 Industry Road. Volunteers have set up a simple drop‑off point: “Just go to the far left (kitchen) door and ring the doorbell,” a spokesperson for the Center explained. The staff will collect the bottles and distribute them to local shelters and outreach programs that serve those most vulnerable during the heat wave.

Why the request matters

Heat‑related illnesses are a serious risk for people without reliable shelter or access to clean drinking water. According to the Kentucky Department for Public Health, extreme temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke, especially among the homeless and elderly. By providing bottled water, community members can directly reduce these health risks and demonstrate Christian compassion in action.

Community response

Local churches, civic groups, and businesses have already expressed support for the Center’s appeal. Pastor James Whitaker of First Baptist Church said, “Our faith calls us to care for the least among us. Supplying water is a simple yet powerful way to live out that calling.” Several neighborhood associations are organizing volunteer teams to help transport and distribute the donations throughout the city.

Additional ways to help

Beyond bottled water, the Catholic Action Center welcomes other contributions such as non‑perishable food items, clothing, and monetary gifts. All donations will be coordinated through the Center’s volunteer network, ensuring that resources reach those in need quickly and efficiently.

Stay informed

Residents can follow updates on the Center’s social media pages or contact the office at (859) 555‑0123 for more information on donation times and volunteer opportunities. The organization encourages anyone who cannot donate water to consider other forms of assistance, reinforcing the community’s collective responsibility to protect the most vulnerable during extreme weather.

By rallying together, Lexington’s faith‑based and civic leaders hope to mitigate the impact of the heat wave and uphold the city’s tradition of neighborly care rooted in Christian values.
