No injuries reported after school bus collides with utility truck in Casey County

CASEY COUNTY, Ky. – On Tuesday afternoon a school bus transporting six children and its adult driver was struck by an internet‑service truck equipped with a boom in the 1800 block of Kentucky Highway 1859. The incident, reported by Casey County Sheriff Chad Combs, resulted in no injuries.

What happened

According to the sheriff’s office, the bus was traveling eastbound when the utility truck, which was performing maintenance work on nearby infrastructure, entered the roadway and collided with the vehicle. Both drivers remained at the scene while Sheriff Combs and deputies secured the area.

Response and investigation

Sheriff Combs said his department responded promptly, providing medical triage and ensuring the safety of the children on board. “No injuries were reported,” he stated, adding that the bus driver and the truck operator were cooperative.

At this time, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The sheriff’s office has not released details about whether road conditions, vehicle malfunction, or driver error contributed to the collision. Officials plan to review dash‑cam footage and interview witnesses before issuing a final report.

Impact on the community

Parents of the six students were notified shortly after the incident and expressed relief that their children were unharmed. The school district confirmed that the bus will return to service once it passes a thorough safety inspection, which is standard procedure after any vehicular accident involving student transportation.

Local officials emphasized the importance of maintaining safe roadways for school transportation, especially in rural areas where buses often share routes with commercial and utility vehicles. Sheriff Combs urged drivers of large trucks to exercise extra caution when operating near school routes and to follow all posted signage.

Looking ahead

The Casey County Sheriff’s Office will release a full incident report once the investigation is complete. In the meantime, the department encourages community members to report any hazardous road conditions or unsafe driving behaviors to help prevent future accidents.

Residents can stay informed about updates through the sheriff’s official website and local news outlets.
