The Canadian federal government is providing assistance to British Columbia as raging wildfires force thousands of people to evacuate. The Bald Range wildfire has spread to over 10,300 hectares, prompting the province to declare a state of emergency.
Federal Assistance
Eleanor Olszewski, Canada’s minister of emergency management and community resilience, announced that federal officials will work with the province to provide shelter and accommodations for displaced residents. The province has received support from international resources, including personnel from Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico.
The wildfires have created challenges for aviation and ground crew response due to poor visibility and increasing fires. Ten helicopters and a night vision helicopter are operating to combat the blaze.
