The Bryan City Council is set to deliberate on crucial infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the city’s water system and traffic management. The meeting, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Bryan City Hall, will focus on securing a $21 million grant from the Texas Water Development Board, leveraging House Bill 500, which allocates over $1 billion for statewide water infrastructure projects.
Water System Enhancements
The proposed improvements include significant upgrades to the city’s water infrastructure. Key projects involve the installation of piping and well production equipment for wells 20 and 21, with an estimated cost of $14.5 million. These wells are currently in the drilling phase, and the piping is in the design stage. Additionally, a new cooling tower at the Wellfield Pump Station is planned, costing $4.5 million, and the deepening and replacement of the pump at water well 14 with a slimline pump, budgeted at $2 million, is currently in the design phase.
Traffic Signal and Road Improvements
Traffic management will also see enhancements with the installation of new traffic signals and road modifications. Boonville Road (FM158) and Briarcrest Drive (FM1179) will feature a dedicated right turn lane for northbound traffic, and the left turn bay will be expanded. A new traffic signal will be installed at Boonville Road (FM158) and Miramont Boulevard, with an increase in the left turn bay. Additionally, a new traffic light is planned for Green Valley Drive and Briarcrest Drive (FM1179).
Park and Public Facility Upgrades
In addition to water and traffic improvements, the council is expected to approve upgrades to public facilities and parks. Planned installations include shade structures at Sue Haswell Memorial, Tanglewood, and Greenbrier parks, two restroom facilities at Travis Bryan Midtown Park, and the replacement of playground equipment at Villa West Park.
