Mia Okubo Joins ABC-7 as Producer in El Paso

Mia Sofia Okubo, a proud native of El Paso, Texas, has joined the ABC-7 team as a producer. Her journey into journalism began at Coronado High School, where she developed a passion for photography and journalism through her work with the school newspaper. This early interest led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in digital media production from The University of Texas at El Paso, graduating in the fall of 2024.

Local Roots and Academic Achievements

During her time at UTEP, Mia was instrumental in reinstating the Digital Media Production Association, serving as its president for three years. Her leadership and dedication to the field were evident as she focused on photography and explored various roles in film and production. Her academic journey equipped her with the skills necessary to excel in the fast-paced world of media production.

Professional Experience and Community Involvement

After completing her degree, Mia gained valuable experience in commercial production and local short films, working as a gaffer, production assistant, and photographer. Her diverse skill set and commitment to storytelling have prepared her well for her new role at ABC-7, where she is eager to produce shows that inform and engage the El Paso community.

Personal Interests and Family Values

Outside of her professional life, Mia enjoys a variety of activities that reflect her vibrant personality. She frequents the gym, enjoys photography, and loves exploring new restaurants. Family time and travel are also important to her, underscoring her strong family values and love for community. As she embarks on this new chapter with ABC-7, Mia is excited to contribute to the local media landscape, sharing stories that matter to the people of El Paso.
