A brush fire burning in Kern County, near the community of Lebec, has prompted an evacuation warning. The Buzzard Fire, which is estimated to be around 180 acres, was reported at approximately 8 a.m. An evacuation warning has been issued for the area, meaning residents should be prepared to evacuate.
The fire is located on a hillside west of the 5 Freeway, about 70 miles north of Los Angeles. One lane on the 5 Freeway has been closed for the fire response. Fortunately, no structures are immediately threatened.
Details about the cause of the fire are not yet available. CalFire has reported 4,279 wildland fires that have burned over 213,500 acres since the start of the year through August 3.
