The Brazos County Precinct 4 Volunteer Fire Department and the South Brazos County Fire Department are among the recipients of grants from the Texas A&M Forest Service’s Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program. The program has granted over $600 million to volunteer fire departments in Texas since 2001.
Grant Details
The Brazos County Precinct 4 Volunteer Fire Department received $25,000 for new fire and rescue equipment, while the South Brazos County Fire Department received $265,000 for a new large bush truck. The grants will help the departments better serve their communities.
There are four volunteer fire departments in Brazos County, covering a wide area. The departments and their coverage areas are: South Brazos County VFD (Allen Farm, Millican, Wellborn, Hwy. 6 South), Brazos County District 2 VFD (city of Kurten, city of Wixon Valley, Edge, Tabor and Macey communities), Brazos County Precinct 3 VFD (Steephollow, Harvey and Reliance communities, Hwy. 30), and Brazos County Precinct 4 VFD (Benchley, Smetana and Brushy Communities, Hwy. 21 West).
