The Woodlands area is seeing significant investment in its road infrastructure, with seven projects currently underway. One of the most notable projects is the extension of David Memorial Drive to Hwy. 242, which began in September 2023 under an interlocal agreement between the city of Shenandoah and Montgomery County.
Project Details
The first phase of the David Memorial Drive extension project is complete, with the final phase set to begin in August. The project will be funded by the Montgomery County road bond approved by voters in 2025. Other projects in the area include improvements to Rayford Road, the construction of a dedicated right-turn lane onto Lockeridge Farms Drive, and the redesign of the traffic signal and intersection layout at the intersection of Rayford Road and Discovery Creek Boulevard.
Additionally, TxDOT is using the existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections. The project is currently 86% complete, with an expected completion date in the fourth quarter of 2026. The Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District is also adding pedestrian walkways, bike lanes, and upgrading landscaping on Tamina Road between FM 1488 and FM 2978.
