Bossier Parish students returned to the classroom Thursday morning for the start of the new school year. Stockwell Place Elementary enters the new school year with strong academic momentum following the release of recent LEAP scores, which ranked among the highest in the state.

Curriculum Updates

District leaders will provide updates on new initiatives, curriculum enhancements, and student resources. Elementary schools will administer K-3 literacy screeners during the first few weeks of school alongside a new K-2 math curriculum with iReady. Middle schools are introducing expanded computer science and CTE programs, while high schools are expanding Work-Based Learning, CTE options, and Dual Enrollment opportunities.

Athletics and Heat Safety

Safety precautions for outdoor practices and recess during hot weather are a top priority. The district is also launching high school girls flag football for the first time this year, building on expanded athletic opportunities at the elementary and middle school levels.

Parent Resources and Transport: District representatives offered guidance on student registration, bus transportation—including 12 new school buses added to the fleet over the summer—and support services at the Parent Center, particularly for families facing language barriers.

The Bossier City Police Department and Chief Daniel Haugen are reminding all drivers to exercise caution as school traffic resumes. BCPD officers will actively patrol school zones throughout the parish. Drivers should keep the following safety guidelines in mind: slow down in school zones, stop completely for school buses when the stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing, put away mobile phones to avoid distracted driving, watch carefully for children, crossing guards, bicyclists, and families during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times, and plan and allow extra travel time to navigate school traffic safely.
