Bernalillo County Animal Care Services is offering a series of free pet microchipping events this week aimed at helping owners protect their animals and improve the chances of being reunited if their pets become lost.
Microchip Blitz Events
The “Microchip Blitz” events come ahead of the busy holiday period, a time when animal welfare officials often see an increase in lost and displaced pets due to fireworks, family gatherings, travel, and other celebrations that can cause animals to become frightened or escape from their homes.
County officials say microchipping remains one of the most effective ways to identify lost pets and connect them with their owners. The procedure is quick, safe, and provides permanent identification that can be scanned by animal shelters, veterinarians, and animal control officers.
Two free microchipping events are scheduled across Albuquerque, with all clinics operating from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.:
- June 24: Tingley Field, 550 10th St. SW
- June 26: North Domingo Dog Park, 7520 Corona Ave. NE
No appointments are required, and the service is available at no cost to community members. Pet owners are asked to bring dogs on leashes and cats in secure carriers to ensure the safety of both animals and staff.
