Music enthusiasts in Anchorage are in for a treat as the long-standing debate between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones takes center stage at the Discovery Theatre. Tribute bands Abbey Road and Start Me Up will engage in a musical showdown on June 17, 18, 24, and 25, offering fans a chance to experience the iconic hits of these legendary bands live.
A Musical Showdown
The event, produced by DRB Productions and sponsored by Alaska Airlines and iHeart Media, aims to benefit Alaska American Legion Baseball. Abbey Road, known for their authentic portrayal of the Beatles, will face off against Start Me Up, who bring the energy and style of the Rolling Stones to life. This unique event allows fans to witness a live debate that has persisted for over six decades: the pop appeal of the Beatles versus the rock edge of the Stones.
Chris LeGrand, who plays Mick Jagger in the show, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “Music fans never had a chance to see the Beatles and the Rolling Stones perform on the same marquee. Now, music aficionados can watch this debate play out live on stage.”
Touring Across Continents
The Anchorage performances are part of a larger 125-stop tour that spans the U.S., Australia, and Canada. Since 2011, the show has also performed long-term residencies at various Harrah’s Casino properties. The production features popular songs from both bands, with the Rolling Stones’ set list including hits up to the 1980s.
During the two-hour show, each band performs two sets, culminating in a joint encore that promises to be a highlight of the evening. The tribute bands are known for their attention to detail, with custom-made outfits that reflect the iconic styles of the Beatles and the Stones throughout their careers.
