Amkor Technology is making significant strides in Peoria, Arizona, with plans to expand its semiconductor campus from 104 acres to 171 acres. This expansion is a major step in Peoria’s efforts to establish the West Valley as a key player in Arizona’s burgeoning semiconductor industry.
Local Economic Impact
The Peoria City Council recently approved an additional land purchase, allowing Amkor to acquire 67 more acres adjacent to its current property within the Peoria Innovation Core. This expansion is expected to bring as many as 3,000 high-quality jobs to the area, a boon for local employment and economic growth.
Amkor’s $7 billion advanced manufacturing campus will feature over 750,000 square feet of cleanroom manufacturing space across two phases. Once completed, it will be the first U.S.-based high-volume advanced semiconductor packaging and testing facility of its kind, supporting major clients like Apple and NVIDIA.
Strategic Development
This project marks the first significant development within the Peoria Innovation Core, a long-term economic initiative aimed at attracting businesses and creating job opportunities in the West Valley. The city has partnered with the Arizona State Land Department to oversee planning across more than 7,000 acres of undeveloped State Trust land near the Loop 303 corridor.
Peoria Economic Development Services Director Maria Laughner emphasized the city’s commitment to job creation, stating, “We will work with developers and businesses that want to come in, as long as they are trying to bring in users, or they are themselves users that will create a minimum of 10 jobs per acre.”
Construction on the first manufacturing facility began in October 2025, with completion expected by mid-2027 and production starting in early 2028. This development places Amkor alongside other major semiconductor operations in Arizona, including TSMC in north Phoenix and Intel in Chandler.
