Allen ISD Names Interim Superintendent Amidst Local Developments

Allen, Texas, is witnessing several key developments that impact the local community. The Allen Independent School District (ISD) has appointed Kim McLaughlin as the interim superintendent. McLaughlin, who has dedicated 36 years to Allen ISD, will take on this transitional role starting June 1, as the district continues its search for a permanent leader.

Trails and Bikeways Master Plan Update

The Allen City Council has approved a $150,000 contract with Halff Associates to update the city’s Trails and Bikeways Master Plan. This decision, made at the April 28 meeting, aims to align the city’s plan with the updated Collin County Regional Trail Plan from 2025. The current plan, adopted in 2019, no longer reflects the city’s evolving priorities and completed projects, according to city documents.

Solid Waste Contract Rate Adjustment

In another development, the Allen City Council has agreed to a rate adjustment with Community Waste Disposal, increasing the city’s monthly payment for residential waste services by 2.98%. This adjustment, approved on May 12, does not affect residents’ monthly bills, though potential rate changes may be considered during the fiscal year 2026-27 budget discussions. The current contract with CWD, valid until May 31, 2029, allows for annual rate adjustments up to 5%.

Pay Increases for Allen ISD Staff

Allen ISD’s board of trustees has approved a 2% pay increase for teachers and staff, effective in the 2026-27 school year. This decision, made during a May 11 workshop, will see starting teachers’ salaries rise from $61,600 to $62,304.

Low Voter Turnout in Mayoral Election

Despite these developments, Allen experienced low voter turnout in its recent mayoral election on May 2. Only 5.59% of registered voters participated, with Chris Schulmeister winning the mayoral race with 81% of the votes. The election saw 4,070 total votes cast out of 72,475 registered voters.
