Mayor Tim Keller signed a bill to force landlords to maintain properties that are currently vacant in downtown Albuquerque. The Downtown Vacant Premises Ordinance is pushing owners of vacant downtown properties to maintain, repair, occupy or redevelop them while also updating the City on buildings that may be viewed as unsafe.

The ordinance expands on the launch of the Out-of-State Lazy Landlord List, which identifies property owners with repeated housing violations and resident complaints. “A thriving Downtown doesn’t happen in its own,” said Mayor Keller. “Property owners, landlords, and businesses have to do their part to encourage growth and investment in the Downtown core. We’re all here to make sure our available spaces are active, occupied, and most importantly, safe.”
