Abbott Raises Record $26 Million in Final Month of Texas Governor Race

In the last thirty days of the 2026 Texas governor’s race, Gov. Greg Abbott demonstrated the financial muscle of a seasoned incumbent, pulling in $26 million—the biggest single‑period haul of his campaign cycle. The figures, filed in the latest finance reports due Monday, reflect a decisive push as Abbott confronts an unusually competitive challenge from Democrat Gina Hinojosa.

Record‑breaking contributions

Abbott’s $26 million intake eclipses the $8.8 million he raised over the same stretch in his 2022 bid against Beto O’Rourke. Nearly one‑fifth of the new money came from a single donor, Elon Musk, who continues to back Republican candidates across the state. Other major contributors included Phil Knight ($2.5 million), Kenneth Fisher ($2 million), and a slate of megadonors who each gave $500,000, such as Miriam Adelson, Anthony Wood, John Nau and Lee Bass. The Republican Governors Association added another $3 million, while AI‑focused donors like Anthropic co‑founder Tom Brown contributed $300,000.

Spending blitz

Abbott’s cash flow was matched by an aggressive spending strategy. Over the same period he disbursed $35.8 million, averaging more than $1 million a day, primarily on television advertising. Those ads, alongside Musk‑funded spots supporting Senate nominee Ken Paxton, have dominated Texas airwaves, reinforcing Abbott’s record and contrasting Hinojosa’s voting history on taxes and cultural issues.

Hinojosa’s fundraising surge

Democrat Gina Hinojosa also posted her strongest fundraising numbers yet, collecting $17.5 million and spending $19.1 million. Her top donors included Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Democratic Governors Association, each contributing $1 million, and the DGA’s canvassing arm provided just under $1.5 million for field operations. Despite the cash gap—Abbott has outspent Hinojosa nearly eight‑to‑one over the entire campaign—the race has tightened, prompting several public polls to show the governor trailing for the first time in his four gubernatorial runs.

What the numbers mean for voters

The fundraising battle highlights the high stakes of this election. Abbott’s ability to marshal unprecedented resources underscores his confidence in delivering a continued pro‑business, pro‑family agenda for Texas. Hinojosa’s surge, buoyed by out‑of‑state donors and grassroots support, signals a growing appetite for an alternative vision centered on education and health reforms.

Looking ahead

With the final finance disclosures filed and daily donation reports expected through the last week before Election Day, both campaigns will continue to lean on their financial advantages. Texans can expect a flood of advertising in the coming weeks as each side seeks to persuade undecided voters. The outcome will hinge not only on the money raised but on how effectively each candidate connects with voters on issues of faith, family, and individual liberty.
