International Gathering of Young Innovators
Organized by Toyota, the Run for the Robots is part of the FIRST Tech Challenge, which invites students as young as seventh grade to demonstrate their engineering and programming prowess. Over 70 teams from middle and high schools competed, each showcasing months of preparation and hard work.
One student participant expressed the joy and satisfaction of seeing their efforts come to fruition. “It’s a lot of technical expertise from our team members that goes into it, but once it competes on the field, once it actually works, and we can see it hardware software intertwined on there, we’re always really happy with the result,” he said. “It’s always just such a thrill when you see something that you’ve put so many hours into work as well as it should, and it’s a really fun competition and a great experience.”
Building Skills for the Future
The event was not just about competition and fun; it was also an opportunity for students to gain valuable skills that could lead to future careers in engineering and technology. Organizers emphasized the importance of such events in preparing the next generation for the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.
