The Wylie Police Department has been using Flock automated license plate readers for nearly two years, and they have proven to be a valuable tool in investigations. The department’s first Flock camera was installed on August 12, 2024, according to Assistant Police Chief Tommy Walters. Today, the department has eight cameras, with seven installed and one awaiting deployment.
Investigative Tool
The city’s annual contract for the system totals $27,000. Walters said the initial purchase was funded through asset forfeiture funds before being incorporated into the department’s annual operating budget. The use of these cameras has raised some privacy concerns, but the department believes they are an important part of their investigative efforts.
