William Robinson appointed permanent CEO of Cuba Memorial Hospital

Cuba Memorial Hospital (CMH) confirmed that William Robinson will assume the permanent role of chief executive officer, effective August 5, 2026. Robinson has been serving as interim CEO since July and will continue his duties as nursing home administrator, a position he has held since April 2026.

Expanded responsibilities for local health care

In his expanded capacity, Robinson will oversee daily hospital operations, including the 61‑bed skilled‑nursing facility that serves the town of Cuba and the surrounding Allegany County region. CMH employs more than 140 staff members and generates over $16 million in annual revenue. As a nonprofit critical‑access hospital, CMH provides a full suite of services: a 24/7 urgent‑care center, acute inpatient care, long‑term and skilled‑nursing care, physical, occupational and speech therapy, palliative care, radiology, ultrasound, laboratory work, social work, and nutrition services.

Board confidence in new leadership

“The CMH Board of Trustees is confident that we made an excellent choice in selecting William as CEO,” said Kathy Morris, chair of the board. “He brings a wealth of experience, a deep understanding of our organization, and a genuine commitment to our patients, residents, employees, and community. His leadership, knowledge, and passion for rural health care make him uniquely qualified for this dual role. We are excited about the future of Cuba Memorial Hospital under his leadership.”

Robinson’s background

Before joining CMH, Robinson served as nursing home administrator at Maple City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Hornell, NY, a 114‑bed skilled‑nursing facility. Earlier, he led St. Ann’s Community in Rochester, NY, and has held general‑manager positions at multiple skilled‑nursing facilities since 2001, overseeing environmental services, food and nutrition, and facilities management. Robinson earned a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and food science from Rochester Institute of Technology and has been a licensed nursing home administrator in New York State since 2017.

Robinson’s remarks

“I am honored to step in as CEO of Cuba Memorial Hospital and to be part of an organization that has been at the heart of this community for more than 100 years,” Robinson said. “There is something truly special about caring for our neighbors, and I look forward to working alongside our dedicated employees, leadership team, and Board of Trustees to build on our proud legacy. Together, we will continue strengthening the exceptional care our community depends on while ensuring CMH remains a trusted health‑care resource for generations to come.”

Community celebration and historic roots

To mark more than a century of service, CMH hosted a free “Through the Ages” health fair and open house on August 22 at the Palmer Opera House in Cuba. The event offered free health screenings, introductions to health‑care professionals, historical displays, and information about local services.

Founded in 1923 as Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital and incorporated as Cuba Memorial Hospital in 1925, the facility has provided essential care close to home for a hundred‑year legacy. After receiving Critical Access Hospital designation in 1997, CMH has continued to adapt to the evolving health needs of rural New York while preserving local access. In 2026, the hospital joined Kaleida Health’s Epic electronic health‑record system as a community‑connect partner, further improving care coordination across Western New York and parts of Northern Pennsylvania.
