Wildfire smoke blowing into the upper Midwest from Ontario, Canada and Minnesota will impact the Green Bay area through at least Friday. In downtown Green Bay on Wednesday, the weather was once again a hot topic due to the heat and haze.
Air quality index readings reached the very Unhealthy level by early afternoon, the second-highest level on the scale. At that point, people with lung and heart conditions, the elderly, and small children are recommended to avoid being outside.
Mary Rhode with on Broadway says they understand that it poses real health risks to everyone, including their vendors. “Told them to take the precautions that they need to for themselves and their business. And certainly with health in mind that if any of them felt uncomfortable due to any underlying health conditions with the air quality to certainly stay home and stay safe,” said Rhode.
An air quality advisory is also in place statewide until at least Thursday.
