A rapidly spreading wildfire in southwestern France has led to the evacuation of more than 10,000 people. The fire, which is located near the Arcachon Bay area, a popular tourist destination, has scorched through 2,000 hectares of land west of the city of Bordeaux.
Five hundred firefighters are battling to control the blaze, with no reported injuries so far. Many of those evacuated are tourists who were staying in camping sites in the area.
The wildfire is part of a larger trend of increased wildfires in Europe this year, with more land burned than the annual average over the past two decades.
